It did make sense. The "smoke monster" was the man in black because he didn't have a human form anymore (well, not without taking on the form of dead people). So it's basically just evil incarnate. How does that not make sense?

Desmond and penny phone call is the greatest moment I have ever seen in TV or film. I love Desmond. The way he says " I love you Penny, I have always loved you " that melted my heart.
